Overnight shutdowns coming this week to B, D, F and M

The MTA is warning riders of the B,D,F and M lines of a major service disruption from Monday through Friday of this week. Starting on the night of Monday, May 14, all four lines will be out of service along the Sixth Avenue corridor overnight.

From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. this week, trains won’t run between 57th Street and West 4th Street in Manhattan in both directions. The shutdowns will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The disruption is part of the MTA’s new Fastrack program, in which entire segments of subway lines are taken out of service to allow more workers unhindered access to the tracks, signals, switches and drains that regularly need repairs.

Andrea Gonzalez, of Bed-Stuy, said she doesn’t mind the Fastrack repairs as long as the MTA keeps to the schedule. “If it’s going to be longer and everyone is affected, then it’s chaos.”

Maria Conde, however, could only shake her head as she read one of the many MTA advisories along the West 4th St. platform.

Conde’s son commutes from the Bronx to Manhattan at 4 a.m. each morning, so he needs to find an alternate way to get to work this week.

“He works in a clothing store, I don’t know what he’ll do,” Conde said. “This is bad.”
