Dead dolphin spotted in Hudson River

Officials are trying to determine the dolphin's cause of death.

It was a tragic site for people walking along Chelsea Piers this morning.

A dead dolphin was found floating in the water, according to DNAinfo. The discovery comes just days after several people reported seeing a dolphin splashing around in the Hudson River.

Officials from the Riverhead Foundation said they will not be able to determine whether the dolphin found dead this morning is the same one seen swimming a few days ago until its dorsal fin is examined.

A cause of death has not yet been determined.

This isn’t the first time dolphins have been spotted around NYC. In 2008, 12 to 15 dolphins were seen swimming in the Navesink River. Soon after, a dolphin was found dead near the riverbank.
