No bottle service at 40/40 Club at Barclays Center

How the Barclays Center will look once completed.

Managers at the 40/40 Club at the Barclays Center said Thursday that they will not be offering full bottle service to their patrons.

Concerns about the 40/40 Club erupted when it was announced that Jay-Z would be opening a second location of his club at the new home of the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets. Those who live near the stadium in Downtown Brooklyn were worried drunk patrons of the club, and the arena, would create loud noise and possibly even fights, as they stumbled home after one too many at the bar.

“[Bottle service] basically puts the operator in the position of losing
control over how much the patron has had to drink,” Gib Veconi, a member
of Brooklyn Speaks, said at a State Liquor Authority (SLA) hearing on
Tuesday, according to the DNAinfo.

Jay-Z’s original 40/40 in the Flatiron District is known for offering booze bundles like the $3,000 “Hollywood” package featuring six full bottles of hard liquor.

Wine and champagne will still be available by the bottle with hard liquor only be served by the shot.

According to DNAinfo.com, 1,300 resident signatures were presented at the SLA hearing on Tuesday in support of a 10 p.m. cut-off time at the stadium.

But residents weren’t quite as successful in getting that mandate passed. For NBA games liquor can be purchased up to the beginning of the fourth quarter, according to a Barclays spokesman. For concerts or other events, hard alcohol is available up until the last hour of the event, or 2 a.m., whichever comes first.

The Barclays Center is expected to open this fall.
