NYPD investigates Twitter threat against Broadway theater

No police were at the theater Tuesday afternoon.

Cops are pushing Twitter to reveal the identity of a user who threatened to commit an Aurora, Colorado-like massacre at boxer Mike Tyson’s one-man Broadway show.

The NYPD learned of the risk to the Longacre Theater in midtown late Friday night.

But when police used an emergency system established by Twitter to request the account information of the poster, the company turned them down, according to spokesman Paul Browne.

“So we dispatched police to cover the theater while we sought a subpoena,” Browne said.
In one tweet, the poster wrote, “I’m serious, people are gonna die like aurora,” according to the New York Post, which first broke the story.

The poster, who goes by the handle “@obamasmistress” — an account unavailable as of last night — also reportedly threatened to kill celebrities, including Perez Hilton, Wendy Williams and Justin Bieber.

A representative at Twitter declined to comment.

Tyson’s show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth,” opened July 31 at the Longacre Theater on West 48th Street and runs until Aug. 12.

Tweet reaction

Metro asked Broadway-goers what they thought about the tweet threat.

“I wouldn’t go,” Laura Fabrega, from Panama, said. “Maybe it’s not true, but I wouldn’t go anyway.”

“I think if this person was actually going to do it, they wouldn’t tweet about it,” Cara H., from Kansas City, said.
