UPDATE: City grants permit for Trojan vibrator giveaway — it’s back on!

People fill out forms to receive free vibrators from Trojan in Manhattan.

UPDATE: After the city put the kibosh on a giveaway that meant thousands of free sex toys, officials have granted Trojan the proper permits for its pleasure-providing promotion.

Looks like the “Pleasure Cart” will be fully up and running tonight from 5 to 7 pm. Trojan Vibrations’ Facebook page posted this message for followers this afternoon:

Yesterday was just the foreplay…our toe-curling, record breaking Trojan Vibes giveaway will climax today at 5pm. With official NYC permits in hand (thanks City of New York!), the Trojan Vibrations Pleasure Carts have reloaded and will be serving up pleasure tonight from 5-7 pm in the Meatpacking District on the corner of 14th Street and 9th Avenue. Pick up a complimentary Pulse or Tri-Phoria vibrator while supplies last. First come, first served.

Metro’s original story is below.

City government managed to take the thrill out of a promotion that would have put free vibrators into the eager paws of thousands of New Yorkers.

Trojan was hoping to promote its line of sex toys with “Pleasure Carts” stationed on various street corners, handing out 10,000 vibrators for free. However, after the promotion caught the attention of those looking to add a little excitement to their bedrooms, hundreds of people formed a winding line on the sidewalk, waiting for their freebie.

It wasn’t long before city officials showed up to the Pleasure Cart’s Flatiron and Financial District locations and shut down the giveaway after only a few hundred patient patrons received their complimentary sex toys.

City Hall blames Trojan’s lack of permits for the quickie end of the promotion.

“All commercial promotional activity taking place in the street needs a street activity permit. The activity promoting Trojan products, which impeded pedestrian and street traffic, did not have a permit. The production company affiliated with the event worked with the Mayor’s Office and will be holding a promotional event later today with proper permits,” City Hall said in a statement.

Trojan Vibrations last updated its Facebook page to let New Yorkers know the giveaways have been “postponed.”

Pleasure Carts had been scheduled to show up today in Murray Hill and the Meatpacking District.

Some angry New Yorkers voiced their displeasure on Trojan Vibrations’ Facebook page.

“Drove from central jersey to hoboken….with three of my friends…..took the path…..walked eight blocks……and not a vibrator in sight,” one user said.

Others offered their support and a “solution” for people angry about the PR nightmare: “Ill be your trojan warrior with that magnum lifestyle with extra pleasure! Batteries not needed.& you wont ever get stood up!” one person said.
