Runaway carriage horse causes panic in Midtown
It was chaos in Midtown Thursday afternoon when a spooked carriage horse ran through traffic.
The horse got spooked at about 4:20 p.m. after its carriage was clipped by a van, according to the Daily News.
The terrified horse, spooked by honking horns, ran into traffic by Columbus Circle, at 60th Street and Broadway.
The horse then got unhitched from its carriage, which then tipped over, sending its passengers flying out into the street.
The horse then headed west towards 10th Avenue, where it also ran into a Town Car. The scared animal kept running until police officers were able to corral it at 57th Street.
The passengers — one man taken away in a stretcher and a neck brace — were taken to a nearby hospital. The horse had minor scratches. It will be examined by a veterinarian, Stephen Malone, president of the Horse and Carriage Association of NYC, told the Daily News.
