Boston police release sketch of man wanted in Roxbury attacks

A sketch of the suspect.

Boston police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man wanted for attacking a pair of young women during separate incidents in Roxbury this week.

Police on Thursday released a sketch of what the suspect is believed to look like.

The first attack took place Monday evening just before 6:30 p.m. A 17-year-old woman was walking down Camden Street when a man approached her, engaged her in conversation and grabbed her around the neck, police said. The teen was able to wrestle and scream during the attack and managed to escape.

About 24 hours after the first attack, a second teenager said she was walking near Camden Street when a man walked up behind her and said he had a gun. Police said the man then tried to drag the girl to a secluded area, but she was able to fight him off and he fled.

In both incidents the man commented on the physical appearance of the women before the attack, police said.

“Detectives believe the two incidents are related,” police said in a statement.

Anyone who thinks the sketch looks familiar or has information on the attacks can call 617-343-4400 or text “tip” to 27463 (crime).

Because of the attacks, police are urging women walking alone in the area to be cautious.

Police said that people should always be aware of their surroundings, keep their head up and make eye contact with those around them and keep a whistle nearby or yell “fire” or “rape” to draw attention during an attack.
