(UPDATE) Man stabbed outside Flushing mosque, attacker made anti-Muslim comments

A police sketch of the suspect.

A man was knifed early Sunday outside of a mosque in Flushing, Queens, in what may have been a racially motivated attack.

The 57-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the torso just before 5 a.m. as he tried to enter the Masijid-Saaliheen Mosque, located on Kissena Boulevard near Aguilar Avenue. Police said the attacker made anti-Muslim comments during the assault.

The victim, who the NYPD declined to identify by name, was then taken to Boothe Memorial Hospital. He remains there in stable condition, police said Monday morning.

The suspect is described as a white male between 35 and 45-years-old, 6-feet tall and 180 pounds. Police said he has blue eyes and a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, a black jacket and blue jeans. He may also wear glasses.

No arrests have been made yet, and an investigation is ongoing, a police spokeswoman told Metro.

No one at the mosque could be reached for comment.
