[PHOTOS] Take a look at the future Government Center Station
Transportation officials recently said that the Government Center MBTA station will close by the Fall of 2013 for a two-year, estimated $90 million renovation that promises to bring the station up to modern standards and code requirements.
The project will include a new station entrance, improved platforms, and new elevators and escalators, as well as an overhaul of the electrical system; new LED signs, better lighting and an expanded fare collection area, and surrounding parts of Cambridge Street and City Hall Plaza will also be reconstructed, officials said.
T and the state transportation officials will hold a public meeting on Dec. 12 at 100 Cambridge Street to talk about the project and the station’s two-year closure, which will affect more than 11,000 MBTA customers who travel through the station on weekdays.
MBTA officials said construction will likely be finished in the second quarter of 2016.
