Bob Brady will receive the first annual ‘Bob Brady Working Class Hero Award’ this weekend
U.S. Rep. Bob Brady will this Saturday receive the first annual “Bob Brady Working Class Hero Award” recognizing his brokerage of private-equity firm the Carlyle Group’s purchase of Sunoco’s ailing Philadelphia refinery.
“We named an award after Bob Brady and he will be the first to receive what will be an annual award,” United Steelworkers Local 10-1 President Jim Savage said in a statement. The honor will be presented to the congressman during a celebratory dinner at the IATSE Ballroom in South Philadelphia.
“We wanted to show our appreciation to Congressman Brady for saving our jobs,” Savage said. “Brady stepped up to the plate and fought for us and his fight resulted in a joint venture with the Carlyle Group and Sunoco, Inc. and the formation of a new company – Philadelphia Energy Solutions.”
Brady said he’s honored by the commendation. “I was proud to stand in solidarity with the men and women of Local 10-1 who kept the pressure on to save their jobs,” he said. “They inspired me.”
