City wins fight over docked pay for no-show workers in 2010 storm

It has been more than two years since a massive snowstorm halted the city just after Christmas in 2010. Now, a ruling has brought a two-year fight between the Bloomberg administration and city workers to an end, allowing the city to dock pay for workers who did not show up to work, according to the New York Post.

According to the ruling, workers who didn’t make it to work after the storm were legitimately docked vacation or personal days.

The ruling could affect 125,000 city employees and 60,000 others in related government entities such as the City University of New York.

Disabled workers and those who showed up to offices that were closed won’t lose any pay days.

District Council 37, the union representing most of the workers, had filed a grievance that its members could not make it to work because subways and buses were shut down.

City officials have said that in the past, only employees whose offices and workplaces could not function due to power outages have been paid. This wasn’t the case when transit was knocked out.
