Police are warning the Harvard University community to be cautious while on campus, after a female student was assaulted early Monday morning.

In a statement on its website, the Harvard University Police Department says an undergraduate was approached by two men in the courtyard of the Quincy House residence hall around 1:35 a.m.

“The victim stated that while walking through the courtyard she was grabbed by two males who attempted to pull her back towards the building,” the statement reads. “The suspects did not say anything to the victim. She fought with them and was able to flee the courtyard and entered a nearby residence for safety.”

So far, no arrests have been made. The HUPD is increasing patrols on campus, and encourages anyone who observes “suspicious activity” to contact them right away.

“The Harvard University Police Department wants to remind students, faculty, and staff that we are located in an urban setting and share many of the crime and safety issues that exist in any city,” the statement continues. “Community members should be vigilant while walking throughout campus and surrounding areas both during the day and at night and to take appropriate precautions.”

The statement was also sent to students and staff Monday, the first alert from the HUPD since last August, when two rapes were reported within a week. One allegedly occurred in Harvard Yard on August 10, the other near campus on August 17. Neither victim was a Harvard student.
