The Boston Parks and Recreation Department invite families to the William Devine Golf Course Clubhouse in Franklin Park for the ParkSCIENCE Children’s Festival on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The free festival will provide fun during February school vacation week with indoor and outdoor activities, according to city officials.

“These kinds of hands-on activities make learning fun while providing parents with a great school vacation week activity for all ages,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino said in a statement. “I encourage everyone to come out to this great free event at Franklin Park”

The lineup includes the Boston Park Rangers “Horse of Course” program and Critter Exhibit, the New England Aquarium Tidal Pool where participants can handle and observe a wide range of live tidal pool animals from local waters, MIT’s “Science From Scientists” activities and demonstrations, an exhibit hosted by City Archeologist Joe Bagley featuring artifacts found during various city digs, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Plantmobile and outdoor plant scavenger hunt, and demonstrations hosted by iRobot and Cambridge Science Festival’s Science on the Street.

In addition, L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools will present the Snowshoeing Discovery Course, a fun and relaxing way to try out the sport with L.L.Bean’s expert guides who will lead an easy trek through Franklin Park. As with all of L.L.Bean Discover Series Courses, all the gear, equipment and instruction will be provided. L.L.Bean will also be bringing the L.L.Bean Bootmobile, a larger-than-life mobile version of the company’s oldest and most iconic product, the Bean Boot, measuring 13 feet tall, nearly 21 inches long and nearly 8 feet wide.
