PHOTOS: Anthrax scare clears out Federal Courthouse in Center City

An anthrax scare this morning cleared out the U.S. Federal Courthouse at 6th and Market streets. Police said a letter containing a white substance was mailed to an office inside the Center City building shortly after 9 a.m. It was reportedly sent by an inmate being housed at the courthouse.

Numerous emergency personnel responded, including the fire department’s Hazardous Materials Ground Unit, to check the building. They were still on the scene around 11 a.m. this afternoon. Investigators said the threat appears to be unfounded.
