A rash of recent robberies against people in East Boston have police issuing a warning to people in the neighborhood.

There have been five robberies in the last week, police said.

The most recent robbery occurred Monday when two white men wearing bandanas demanded a woman hand over her cell phone and cash as she walked along Orleans Street just before 11 p.m.

All of the five street robberies have occurred between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and have been committed by two or more men. In two of the robberies the victims were threatened with a handgun. The victims of the first two robberies were also attacked and had their wallet or cash stolen.

Police urged people to always be aware of their surroundings, to walk in well-lit areas and avoid walking alone late at night.
