A fight outside a popular Boylston Street bar early Wednesday is what led to a man being run over and dragged down the roadway by a taxi cab, police said.

Officers were called to a car accident outside Whiskey’s bar just after 2 a.m. When they arrived they found a man who had been seriously injured after being dragged down the street by a taxi.

Witnesses told police that before the crash a man was yelling in the street before assaulting the victim who was hit by the cab.

“Witnesses stated the suspect was in the middle of Boylston Street and yelled, ‘(Expletive) Boston, and (expletive) your businesses,” turned around, and punched the victim who fell in the street,” police said in a statement.

Just after that, a cab traveling down the road ran over the victim and dragged him until passersby motioned for the driver to stop, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene and told officers he did not see the man in the road.

The man who punched the victim fled down Boylston Street. Police searched the area, but could not find the man.

Police said the man that was hit by the car suffered injuries to his face and lower body, but was expected to survive.

Police said witnesses described the suspect as a white man. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket with fur on the hood. Witnesses said the man appeared to be between 30 and 32 years old and about five feet, 10 inches tall.
