SEPTA plans to raise fees by July 1, upgrade fare system by 2014
SEPTA fares will go up starting July 1, and a new “smart card” system, if approved, will be fully implemented by 2014, the company announced today.
If approved by SEPTA’s 12-member board, the increases will take effect on July 1. This is the first fare increase since 2010.
Fares will go up again around July 1, 2014 when SEPTA installs its new smart-card system. The new system will completely replace SEPTA’s currency system.
Fares will raise either 5 or 11 percent, depending on the mode of transportation.
