Officers patrolling the St. Patrick’s Day parade in South Boston issued more citations and made more arrests this year than they did last year, according to preliminary numbers.

The police department released preliminary arrest and citation numbers last night. As of 6:45 p.m., 336 people were cited for drinking in public and 26 people were arrested for disorderly conduct.

Last year police issued nearly 250 citations for public drinking and arrested about a dozen people.

Some of those arrested will likely be arraigned Monday in South Boston District Court, but others will be summonsed to court at a later date, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.

Prior to Sunday’s parade and festivities, the city issued an advisory urging revelers to celebrate a “family-friendly holiday.”
