Spring officially starts Wednesday, but apparently no one told Mother Nature.

According to forecasters, Boston will get hammered with sleet, freezing rain and 4 to 6 inches of snow Monday night and Tuesday. Areas north and west of the city could get as much as 10 inches.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from 9 p.m. Monday until 8 p.m. Tuesday., warning of a “significant winter storm.”

The majority of the snow is expected overnight, causing “treacherous” conditions for Tuesday’s commute.

“It’s not going to be pleasant,” meteorologist Alan Dunham told the Boston Globe. “The morning commute will be sloppy, so allow for extra time.”

The skies may be a bit clearer for the rest of the week, but don’t expect it to be warmer. Highs are only forecast to be around 40 degrees through next weekend.
