Phillies unveil new dishes at Citizens Bank Park

The start of spring signifies fresh flowers, warm weather and new dishes at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies gave a glimpse of new menu items yesterday at the Majestic Clubhouse Store.

Jeremy Campbell, the ballpark’s concessions manager, called the new kid on the block, “what I think will be our signature flavor this year.”

He was talking, of course, about Federal Donuts. The stand, which will set up shop in Ashburn Alley, will sell its signature fried chicken and gourmet doughnut combination.

Harry the K’s restaurant will feature a Harry’s Double dog, a Chicago dog, chicken burger, slow roasted beef, smoked turkey wrap, toasted chicken grinder and Hickory smoked pulled pork.

A beer garden will also open behind the bullpens featuring custom Alley Brewery Company Lager. A gluten-free dedicated stand will be based behind section 136.

Other additions:

If you’re in Ashburn Alley, you can access free WiFi in the center field rooftop concession area and Harry the K’s.

The Phillies Majestic Store was renovated to include a wall of Phillies’ caps, and now fans can buy bases and balls used during the game they are watching.

The team also announced plans to give away a Phillie Phanatic bobble head for every month of the season.

Gina’s Cupcakes: sweet success story

Gina Catinella’s heart was broken.

She opened Sweet GC’s Bakeshop in Camden County, NJ, a sweet shop specializing in cupcakes for weddings and events. It failed two years later.

“I wrote a song and nobody bought the song,” she said.

A few years back, a friend who works at ARAMARK said the company, which operates many of the food services at Citizens Bank Park, was considering adding pastries at the ballpark. Catinella brought her ideas to the head chef, and was able to translate her passion to baseball.

Now in her third year, Gina’s Cupcakes, which is located at the Turkey Hill stand caddy-corner to the Schmitter, will add death by chocolate and peanut butter and jelly cupcakes, among others. She’s also envisioning a s’mores or marshmallow cupcake in the future.

At the ballpark, she’s found her true calling.

“I just want to see the guys with the red velvet in one hand and the beer in the other,” she said.

What’s new this year?
