Two people were killed this weekend and ten people were injured in three shootings, two stabbings, a car crash and a hit-and-run.

Man, woman killed in unrelated stabbings

Two people were confronted with gruesome discoveries Friday when they discovered the bodies of family members killed in two unrelated stabbings.

Police said 59-year-old Peter Miles was stabbed three times in the chest inside his home on the 5300 block of Poplar Street in West Philadelphia.

He was pronounced dead on the scene around 9:30 a.m.

Miles’ 38-year-old stepson went to check on the man’s well being shortly after 9 a.m. and found the body on the second floor of the house.

In a bizarrely similar yet unrelated incident, a Point Breeze man found the body of a family member inside his home on the 1900 block of Reed Street.

Police said the man shortly after 9:15 p.m. found the body of 42-year-old Elaine Brooks lying on the living room floor.

Brooks had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene.

No arrests have been made in either slayings and investigators have not yet disclosed any possible motives.

Two men critical in shootings

Two men are in critical condition following two unrelated shootings Friday in Mill Creek and Point Breeze.

A man is clinging to life after a shooting Friday night in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia.

Officers found the victim, 24, shortly before 6:15 p.m. in a rear driveway on the 4600 block of Parrish Street. He had been shot once in the back of the head.

The man was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is in critical condition.

Investigators believe the victim was involved in an argument with two black males at 46th and Parrish streets. He was shot five to ten minutes later.

One of the suspects is described as a thin black male with a light complexion last seen wearing a gray hoodie. No arrests have yet been made.

A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times Friday night near 22nd and Wharton streets in Point Breeze.

Police said the victim, 36, was found around 11:10 p.m. He had been shot three times in the head and once each in the back and shoulder.

He is currently in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark hat, blue hoodie and dark-colored pants. There’s no word on a motive and no arrests have yet been made.

Man arrested for allegedly shooting 16-year-old with BB gun

Police said the 34-year-old man shot the boy as he rode his dirt bike through a Port Richmond playground.

Police have arrested a 34-year-old Port Richmond man for allegedly shooting a 16-year-old boy with a pellet gun Friday night.

Investigators said the 16-year-old was riding his dirt bike in the Cohox Playground in Port Richmond around 11:15 p.m. when he saw a man with a rifle.

The teen said he heard a shot and felt something hit his left leg. He went home, where he felt pain and saw his lower leg was bleeding.

The boy’s mother called 911 and he was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for treatment.

Police on Saturday took into custody 34-year-old Montana Norvell of the 2900 block of Chatham Street for allegedly shooting the teen.

Norvell was arraigned yesterday and is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possession of an instrument of crime and simple assault.

He was freed after posting 10 percent of $5,000 bail. Norvell is next due in court for a preliminary hearing on April 10.

Car crashes hospitalize seven

A pedestrian is struggling to recover from a violent hit-and-run Saturday night and six people were injured early this morning in an alleged DUI crash.

A woman is in critical condition after she was mowed down while waiting for the bus Saturday night during a hit-and-run in Olney.

A witness told police he saw the 49-year-old woman standing at a SEPTA bus stop on a curb near the driveway of the Days Inn on the 4200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard.

He said a minivan was driving south in the Boulevard’s middle lane when shortly after 11 p.m. it appeared to suddenly lose control.

The van veered into the right lane of traffic and plowed into the woman, sending her flying into the air, according to the witness.

Investigators said the woman landed about 15 feet away at the corner of Garland Street.

The car then slammed into the hotel’s fence, destroying a portion of it, according to police.

Though the driver momentarily stopped, authorities said the vehicle soon fled the scene.

The witness was unable to catch the vehicle’s tag, but described it as a tan minivan, possibly a 2009 Chevrolet Venture.

He called 911 and stayed with the woman until medics took her to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

She is currently hospitalized with a broken leg, ruptured spleen, head trauma and internal injuries.

Police said a car spun out of control early this morning in the Byberry section of Northeast Philadelphia, resulting in a fiery crash.

A motorist who observed the accident told police a Plymouth Neon was driving north on the Roosevelt Boulevard around 3:30 a.m., traveling in the outer lane near Woodhaven Road.

The driver of the Neon apparently lost control, crossed in front of the second motorist, jumped the center median and slammed into a tree. Police said the car burst into flames.

All six of the vehicle’s occupants were taken to Aria Health-Torresdale for treatment, according to authorities.

Two passengers, both of them 18-year-old males, are in critical but stable condition.

Investigators said the car’s driver, a 20-year-old man, will be charged with DUI and related offenses.
