Delaware State Police arrested a New Castle woman Tuesday for allegedly biting a Sears employee who caught her stealing from Concord Mall, then attempting to carjack a woman in the parking lot.

Police said a 33-year-old Sears security guard was performing routine video surveillance when around 6:30 p.m. he saw a woman pocketing store merchandise.

The man confronted the woman – later identified as 21-year-old Kenyetta Reed – as she tried to leave the store. Reed allegedly fled, but the employee caught up with her in the mall parking lot.

Investigators said a struggle ensued during which Reed bit the man several times.

A 48-year-old woman who was driving by witnessed the fight and tried to intervene, according to authorities. But when she got out of her car, Reed allegedly broke free from the security guard and hopped inside.

Police said the vehicle owner, her husband and the Sears employee were able to prevent Reed from putting the car in gear and pulled her out of the vehicle.

Reed then allegedly kicked the 48-year-old woman repeatedly in the chest and attempted to bite the Sears officer several more times.

The three victims were able to restrain Reed until state troopers arrived. The Sears employee was treated for his bite wounds at a local hospital and released.

Police said they discovered in Reed’s possession stolen merchandise from Sears, along with three other stores.

She allegedly lied to the officers about her name, but one of them recognized her from a previous incident during which she allegedly bit and stabbed a shoe store employee during a separate incident in Wilmington.

According to that officer, a 27-year-old Sports Authority security guard on Feb. 3 saw Reed put on a pair of boots and walk out of the store without paying.

When the man grabbed Reed in an attempt to stop her, she allegedly stabbed his hands several times with her car keys and bit him until she was able to break free.

Reed was arraigned Tuesday for both incidents.

She was is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree assault, carjacking, offensive touching with saliva, shoplifting, criminal impersonation, conspiracy and driving with a suspended license.

Reed is being held at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute in lieu of $137,000 cash bail.
