Cheltenham police are searching for two men who robbed the Rite Aid store at 1401 W. Cheltenham Ave., in the township’s Elkins Park section, early Tuesday.

The robbery occurred at around 5:12 a.m.

One of the suspects pulled a gun after making a purchase and proceeded to threaten two employees, police said. He fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and several packs of Newport Light cigarettes.

The gunman “racked” the firearm’s slide during the robbery, police said. Investigators recovered a live .45-caliber round near the store’s cash register.

Police describe the suspects as black males.

The gun-toting suspect has a dark complexion and acne pockmarks, appears to be 35 to 40 years old, stands about 5-feet-11, weighs about 250 pounds, and had a “scruffy” beard, according to police. He was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball cap, gray “basketball snap” pants and black shoes.

The second suspect, who stole candy from the store, has a light complexion, has tattoos on his neck, and appears to be about 25 to 30 years old, police said. He was wearing a brown sweatshirt, a brown vest, blue jeans and tan boots.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery or suspects to call the Detective Division at 215-885-1600 ext. 499.
