Bronx woman arrested for apartment fire that displaced 27
A 19-year-old Bronx woman who was having an argument with her mother has been charged in connection with the massive apartment building fire that left nearly 30 people homeless Saturday morning.
Princess Martinez allegedly lit a mattress on fire during a fight with her mother inside their fifth floor apartment at 2254 Cedar Ave. in University Heights, the New York Post reports. Martinez left the apartment and bolted it shut. Her mother escaped unharmed, but the fire quickly grew to a three-alarm blaze that tore through a number of apartments on the fifth and sixth floors.
Six firefighters were treated for injuries and 27 people were displaced after the fire.
Martinez has been charged with arson.
