Nutter: Extra security for Broad Street Run
Philadelphia will have extra security on hand for the May 5 Broad Street Run in the aftermath of the bomb blasts at the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon.
“Runners and spectators will in fact see a much more visible security presence on race day for the Broad Street Run,” Mayor Michael Nutter told reporters.
The 10-mile Philadelphia road race is the largest of its kind in the country, drawing 40,000 participants annually.
The latest reports from Boston have three dead and more than 140 injured in two explosions near the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street at around 2:50 p.m. Monday.
