Police have identified the man who stashed a loaded handgun under a seat cushion at the World Center Hotel last week.

North Carolina man Bobby Jackson, 59, was caught on surveillance camera entering the hotel lobby around 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.

According to a law enforcement source, cops tracked the .22 caliber handgun using its serial number and eventually located the man in North Carolina. Jackson said he bought it from one of his employees, the source reported.

Police said the gun was not registered in Jackson’s name.

They also used the surveillance footage to determine that Jackson was with a tour group visiting the 9/11 Memorial grounds. They were then able to locate someone who had assisted the tour group, and consequently locate Jackson, cops said.

He either asked a security officer or saw a sign, and discovered that guns are not allowed in the Memorial area, and opted to stow the gun in the hotel lobby.

He reportedly came back approximately three hours later to get the gun back, but it had already been found by a hotel guest and given to the hotel staff.

Jackson is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Reckless Endangerment.

It’s not known whether the gun was legally possessed in North Carolina, but regardless, it’s illegal to have here in New York City.
