Girl, 14, allegedly sets Mattapan rink on fire
A 14-year-old girl was so angered over being denied entry to a popular Mattapan roller skating rink that she allegedly set the door to the building on fire.
The teen, whose name was not released because of her age, was arraigned in a juvenile session of Dorchester District Court Monday on a charge of arson, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office. She was released to the custody of her grandmother, ordered to abide by a 5 p.m. curfew, attend school every day and to stay away from the rink and witnesses.
Police and fire crews were called to the Chez Vous roller rink at about 10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a fire. About 120 people were inside the rink when the fire broke out. It was quickly put out by a firefighter with an extinguisher.
Police were told by staff that the teen had been denied entry earlier in the night. She had been banned from the rink for 30 days for fighting and threatening other patrons, authorities said.
Witnesses and surveillance footage showed the teen pushing papers into the burning fire, the district attorney’s office said.
The teen is due back in court next month.
