Temple University has scrapped the 20/20 plan and is moving forward with a new “vision.”

The university announced today that it will launch a “new effort to develop a comprehensive vision for the university driven by input from members of the Temple community,” according to a statement.

Dubbed “Visualize Temple,” the initiative plays into Neil Theobald, the new school president’s, plan for the university.

In an interview with Metro, Theobald said the school’s plan for campus development, Temple 20/20, was coming to an end only a few years after it started.

“We’re really trying to visualize, not just building by building,” like the 20/20 plan, Theobald said.

“The president explained that with the successful completion of many of the Temple 20/20 initiatives, the time is right to build the next vision for the university future. He stressed that the end result will be much more than a map of future projects,” according to a news release.

In accordance with Temple 20/20, an architecture building, two new residence halls, a new science center, a new parking garage and renovations to the out-dated athletic complex were completed or are still under construction.

Plans to raze Barton Hall, which sits on Liacourus Walk and faces 13th Street, and create a green quadrangle is still planned, according to Theobald.

The new library, which was planned for North Broad Street, is still in the works but may be relocated closer to the center of campus. The existing Paley Library would still be reconfigured into a research-based facility.

Temple is working with the Michigan-based SmithGroupJJR, an architecture, engineering and planning firm, for the new campus vision. The university previously worked with the philadelphia-based team of Olin Studios and MGA partners to develop a comprehensive plan for campus redevelopment.

While the $1.2 billion Temple 20/20 plan focused on the Main Campus in North Philadelphia, all four of the university’s campuses – Main, Ambler, Center City and Health Sciences -will all be incorporated into the school’s new vision.
