Prosecutors have charged a Salem man who was serving probation for groping two women on the MBTA with allegedly assaulting a third victim.

Dane Mullin, 27, was arraigned in Boston Municipal court Tuesday on one count of indecent assault and battery, according to a statement from the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.

Authorities said Mullin groped a woman around 7 a.m. on Dec. 17, 2012, onboard a Green Line train between the Haymarket and Government Center stations. The alleged victim immediately alerted MBTA staff.

“Using surveillance images from multiple stations and after sharing information with local police departments, Transit Police detectives identified Mullin as a suspect in the Dec. 17 incident,” the DA’s statement read. “Though the victim was unable to make a conclusive identification, detectives were able to locate Mullin and interview him, at which time he allegedly made incriminating statements admitting that he had touched the woman as he traveled from North Station to Park Street on a Green Line trolley.”

Mullin was arrested on Feb. 2 at Park Street Station for allegedly stealing an MBTA Green Line rider’s cell phone.

In August 2011, Mullin pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and battery for groping two women at North Station on March 5, and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.

On Tuesday, a judge imposed $8,000 bail on the latest charge but ordered Mullin held without bail for allegedly violating his probation.

Mullin also has warrants from Salem District Court for assault and battery and failing to register as a sex offender. He has prior convictions in Cambridge, Chelsea and Salem, according to the Suffolk district attorney, and could face additional charges stemming from an ongoing investigation by MBTA Transit Police.

Mullin is due back in court June 6.
