Father charged with critically injuring 2-month-old son
A Lowell man was charged with assault and battery on a child after prosecutors said he critically injured his young son.
Christopher Berry, 22, was set to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. On Saturday, Lowell Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to 215 Mammoth Road to treat an “unresponsive” 2-month-old boy.
“His injuries are not consistent with accidental trauma,” the district attorney’s office said.
The child was in critical condition Sunday at Tufts Floating Hospital for Children.
The Lowell Sun reported that Berry faced charges in several other criminal cases, including theft and an alleged assault on a girlfriend.
The lawyer representing him in an animal cruelty case said Berry, a National Guard veteran who served in Afghanistan, suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.
