Google Maps adds hi-res images of 9/11 memorial, Central Park
Google Maps is moving past navigation and into virtual tourism with its Street View updates to some of New York City’s most-visited spots.
New high-resolution, 360-degree images seek to allow online users a clear view of the 9/11 Memorial pools, down to each victim’s name engraved on the edges.
Google also visited every corner of Central Park in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy, capturing even the winding trails of the Ramble.
“There’s a lot of rich history in this park and the Google map, as well as the enhancements to the Google map, will enable [visitors] to really see the different areas of the park and how they play a role in the culture of New York,” Terri Coppersmith, the conservancy’s vice president of development and external affairs, said in a YouTube video spotlighting the new additions.
