A 25-year-old Camden woman was caught with more than 4 lbs. of cocaine stuffed into high heel shoes Wednesday at the Philadelphia International Airport, officials with Customs and Border Protection said.

Iveliza Tuhanna Perez was charged with possession with intent to distribute and knowing and intentional possession after she was turned over to Philadelphia Police.

Perez flew into Philadelphia from Montego Bay, Jamaica around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and was subjected to a routine secondary examination, officials said. Officers found three pairs of cork wedge shoes that were “unusually heavy.” X-rays showed something was in the heels.

Officers found each pair had cocaine in them. The street value of the 4 lbs, 7 oz. of cocaine is around $140,000, officials said.

“We want potential drug couriers to know that it’s not so easy to just walk through Philadelphia International Airport with narcotics,” said Allan Martocci, CBP Port Director for the Area Port of Philadelphia in a news release..

Seizures in FY 2012:

CPB officers at the Port of Philadelphia recorded five cocaine seizures—all adding up to about 576 pounds.

The two most significant seizures last year included:

  • 385 pounds of cocaine July 9, 2012 that was concealed inside the panels of a pick-up truck that was barged from Puerto Rico to Petty’s Island, N.J.; and
  • 130 pounds of cocaine in a duffel bag left on the baggage belt at Philadelphia International Airport Jan. 7, 2012.
