Report: Boston the best city for recent graduates
In a recent report, the personal finance website Nerdwallet named Boston the best city for new college graduates based on its nightlife, Walk Score, cost of living and job offers.
According to NerdWallet, Boston has the edge with the largest population of 18- to 24-year-olds of any city, and the fourth highest number of bars per capita. For livability, the city earned the third highest Walk Score, which assessed how easy it is to get around without a car.
Although Boston also ranked as fourth most expensive in housing, the low unemployment rate — the second lowest rate in Nerdwallet’s study — means that recent grads have a better than average chance of securing a job in one of the city’s top industries, which include research, health care and finance.
According to the website, only 45 percent of outgoing students have a job offer post-graduation.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Seattle in second place, followed by Denver; Baltimore; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Austin, Texas; Chicago and San Francisco.
