Lightning blamed for destructive Swarthmore fire
Officials are blaming a destructive, two-alarm fire at Swarthmore College Thursday morning on a lightning strike.
No one was injured in the fire at the school’s Women’s Resource Center, which was empty when the blaze broke out around 10 a.m., the Delaware County Times reports.
It took about 20 minutes for firefighters to declare the fire under control.
Swarthmore Fire and Protection Association was backed up by fire and rescue crews from Springfield, Upland, Garden City, South Media, Morton-Rutledge, Brookhaven and Media fire companies.
