Two men have been arrested in the death of veteran Joseph Puopolo, who was shot dead on July 3 inside a Stoneham home. A second man was also shot, but he remains in stable condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office said 24-year-old Jessie Williams, of Medford, and 19-year-old Eugene Tate, of Malden, were arrested and charged with murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm Sunday, MyFoxBoston.com reports. Both will be arraigned today.

Investigators told Fox that the second shooting victim, who is currently in stable condition, was planning on selling drugs to Williams and Tate. However, Puopolo, 27, believed the situation to be a set up.  Upon their arrival at the Micah’s Pond Way home, Williams and Tate confronted Puopolo and the unnamed man, and demanded money and drugs.

Puopolo recently returned from service in Afghanistan.
