Mayoral candidate and former city comptroller Bill Thompson received $4,000 in contributions from a donor linked to Ponzi-schemer Bernie Madoff—and this isn’t the first time.

New York Daily News reported that Thompson has received more than $21,000 from Seymour Zises, a CEO who was sued by Madoff’s victims for investing the majority of their money with him.

When Thompson ran for mayor in 2009, the Daily News reported he had gotten more than $26,000 from Zises and other Madoff-tainted donors.

At the time, Thompson’s spokesman said he would donate the $4,950 the campaign received from Zises during that election cycle, but the News reported this never happened.

Zises, the CEO of the Family Management Corporation, was sued for telling Madoff victims $25 million they invested with him was spread out over different funds when most went to a Madoff feeder fund.

Several of the lawsuits against Zises were dropped or dismissed, but one is still pending on appeal.

Thompson’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment to Metro and Thompson declined to comment to the Daily News.

Zises has also donated $1,000 each to candidates Joe Lhota and Anthony Weiner, according to the Daily News.
