Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer proclaimed that he is a “feminist” during a stop on MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes.”

The disgraced politician recently announced his candidacy for NYC comptroller. Spitzer, who left office in the wake of a 2008 prostitution scandal, says his record speaks for itself.

“I hate to hide behind the line, ‘Life is complicated,’” Spitzer told Hayes. “But, what I’ve said to the voters is look at the totality of my record, and I have been forthright and direct.”

Spitzer says that he took women’s rights seriously while in office.

“The record I had was one of devout dedication to women’s rights on the issues of choice, on the issues of equal pay, on the issues of anti-discrimination, both as attorney general, where we were fervent in pursuing those cases,” Spitzer said.

Spitzer also pointed out his success in passing a law against human trafficking as governor.

Spitzer is leading the race for comptroller against his opponent, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, with 48 percent of registered Democrats backing him.
