The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will step up efforts to rid subway stations of dirt, rats, and even long lines.

The MTA will hire more cleaners to collect trash from platforms and tracks, sources told The New York Daily News.

Trash and other debris, MTA signs warn, can catch fire on the tracks and lead to delays.

The same sources said the authority also plans on upping its extermination efforts to curb the visible rodent population the city’s subways.

The MTA also plans to move some MetroCard vending machines in stations where long lines block rushed straphangers from getting through turnstiles quickly.

“This is no small-time effort,” one source told the Daily News.

Another source said the new effort is aimed at the busiest stations.

This isn’t the first time the authority has increased efforts to clean up the subway.

In March, the MTA announced plans to use birth-control bait as part of a pilot program to curb the rat population. The bait would induce early-onset menopause in rats.
