A victim of April’s Boston Marathon bombing will be honored on Spectacle Island, one of her favorite Boston locations.

Krystle Campbell of Medford, one of three people who died on April 15 when two bombs were detonated at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, will have a special place dedicated to her at the east gazebo on Spectacle Island Park in Boston Harbor.

Krystle was known for relaxing at the gazebo during breaks from her shift at Jasper White’s Summer Shack, where she worked as catering manager on the island.

“We came to know her very well.  She loved being on the islands, and it seems highly appropriate to honor her memory there,” her former colleagues said in a letter addressed to the Boston Parks and Recreation Commission.

The letter requesting to honor Campbell was signed by Boston Harbor Island Alliance President Philip Griffiths, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Jack Murray, and Superintendent of the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area Kelly Fellner, the Boston Parks and Recreation Commission said in a release.

“The bombings at the 2013 Boston Marathon were a tragic event for all of us in the city, the region and the nation. The many people who work together to manage the Boston Harbor Islands national park area lost a friend and colleague in Krystle Campbell who was killed in the bombing, and we would like to request your approval to allow us to honor her memory on Spectacle Island,” the letter said.

The decision to honor Campbell came from a unanimous vote by the Boston Parks and Recreation Commission on Monday.
