Man drowns in Milton’s Houghton Pond
A man out for a swim with his family drowned in Milton’s Houghton Pond on Monday evening.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, went under the water just before 8 p.m., according to WHDH.
The pond, which has a steep drop-off point, was not monitored by a lifeguard at the time of the drowning.
According to witnesses, the man may not have realized how far out he had gone until it was too late.
“He was out of the line where it says swim area, so I think he couldn’t touch,” one witness told WHDH.
“His family was screaming at him, “Come out!” I think he couldn’t come,” said another witness.
Police and fire crews searched the pond with the aid of a helicopter and the State Police dive team. The man’s body was recovered by divers two hours later.
The Norfolk County District Attorney is investigating the circumstances of the death.
