Weiner says he won’t quit in new campaign video
Anthony Weiner has released a new campaign video saying he will not quit the race.
The one-minute video was posted on the campaign’s website Tuesday evening.
“I know there are newspaper editors and other politicians that say, ‘Boy, I wish that guy Weiner would quit,’” he says in the video.
“They don’t know New York. They certainly don’t know me,” he continues. “‘Quit’ isn’t the way we roll in New York City.”
Weiner said that as a New Yorker, he has learned to fight through tough times.
“If someone wants to come out with something embarrassing about you and your private life, you gotta talk about that for a little while,” he said.
“But it’s also reminded me that citizens, when they come up to you, and they want to talk you about a situation on their block, or at their child’s school or something going on at their job site, that’s what this campaign is all about. And I’ll never forget that.”
The video comes one week after revelations that the mayoral candidate was involved in a sexting scandal as recently as last fall, and just days after his campaign manager quit.
Weiner dropped to fourth place in a new poll released Monday. He was in first place with 26 percent of support in a previous poll but now has 16 percent of support.
