A New Hampshire man shot and killed his 9-year-old son before turning the gun on himself at a Manchester YWCA on Sunday morning.

Muni Sayvon, 54, was having a supervised interaction with his son Joshua in the family visitation center at the YWCA. Partway through the visit, Sayvon took out his gun and shot his son multiple times before shooting himelf. The counselor who was present managed to escape unharmed.

Savyon had previously threatened to kill himself, his son’s mother and their son, police told WCVB. The former couple had a difficult relationship.

Sayvon sent an email to a friend suggesting he was suicidal before the shootings, Rabbi Levi Krinsky of Chabad Lubavitch in Manchester told WBZ. Krinsky said Savyon had been depressed after recently returning from his brother’s funeral in Israel, but he had seen Savyon last week and had no reason to think he’d hurt anyone.

“What would provoke him to take his life and his son’s life? I don’t think anyone can figure that out,” said Krinsky, who said Savyon attended synagogue occasionally. “My heart goes out to the family.”
