Two-thirds of New York voters said they are embarrassed by the national attention shone on the attempted political comebacks of Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer, according to a new Siena College poll released Monday.

“Although 16 percent of New Yorkers think the national attention from the Weiner and Spitzer candidacies is ‘no big deal’ and 8 percent find it entertaining, 68 percent – including 62 percent of New York City voters – say it’s embarrassing,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

Weiner also set a new all-time record low with 80 percent of voters viewing him unfavorably, including three-quarters of Democrats and New York City voters, according to the poll. Only 11 percent of voters view him favorably.

Spitzer’s unfavorability rating is 59 percent, down from 79 percent immediately following his resignation in 2008.

Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo saw his favoribility rating increase to its highest level since February. Sixty-five percent of voters view him favorably, compared to 30 percent who view him unfavorably. According to the poll, 55 percent of voters are prepared to re-elect him in 2014, while 35 percent said they would prefer someone else.
