Public Advocate Bill de Blasio skyrocketed ahead of other Democratic mayoral hopefuls in the latest poll.

Of 579 likely Democratic primary voters, de Blasio leads with 30 percent of the vote, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn is 6 points behind de Blasio with 24 percent of the vote. Former City Comptroller Bill Thompson has 22 percent and former Congressman Anthony Weiner is in fourth place with 10 percent of the vote.

“A few weeks ago, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio looked like an also-ran. Today, he’s the leader of the pack,” Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a statement.

The poll showed that de Blasio also leads Quinn, Thompson and Weiner in runoff elections if a single candidate doesn’t receive 40 percent of the vote on the Sept. 10 primary.

Of Democrats polled, 60 percent also said stop-and-frisk is excessive and harasses innocent people. Of those critical of the controversial police practice—which a federal judge said Monday is unconstitutional in its current state—34 percent back de Blasio.

Though the survey results seem like a big win for de Blasio, who has trailed in fourth and third place in other recent polls, only 38 percent of his supporters said they were sure of their choice.

De Blasio’s campaign manager Bill Hyers said in a statement that their message was clear “whether we are ahead in the polls or behind.”

“He is the only Democrat who will break from the Bloomberg years by raising taxes on the wealthy to invest in universal pre-K and after-school programs, ending racial profiling, and fighting to save community hospitals,” Hyers said.

The poll of likely Democratic voters has a margin of error plus or minus 4.1 percent.
