Police: Delaware man arrested while driving mobile meth lab

Delaware State Police on Monday arrested a Dover man after officers allegedly found a mobile meth lab in his car during a traffic stop.

Investigators said a trooper was following up on an investigation in Lincoln when he was informed of a possible meth lab inside a car around 6:45 p.m.

The trooper located a Ford Escort fitting the vehicle’s description traveling east on Johnson Road before turning south on Coastal Highway, then making a u-turn and heading north.

Police said the officer lost sight of the car in heavy traffic but spotted it again on the 800 block of Bay Road, where he conducted a traffic stop.

When the trooper asked driver Frank Sheridan, 33, whether there was anything illegal in the car, Sheridan allegedly informed him of two actively cooking meth bottles.

Sheridan was arrested without incident.

Responding detectives from the Troop 3 Drug Task Force said they found in the car two actively cooking “one pot” meth bottles, along with key components and ingredients in the drug’s manufacture.

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company assisted with the dismantling and cleanup of the portable meth lab.

Sheridan was taken back to Troop 3 and charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver and with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $30,250 secured bond.

Following the discovery, one northbound lane of Bay Road was closed as a precaution and three surrounding residences were evacuated for three hours.
