Citing her work providing New Yorkers with access to sexual and reproductive services, the Planned Parenthood of New York City Political Committee endorsed City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for mayor Tuesday.

“Chris has shown her commitment to protecting women’s access to life-saving cancer screenings, birth control and safe and legal abortion — and she wholeheartedly shares our belief that medical decisions are best made by women and doctors, not politicians,” Joan Malin, head of the political committee, said in a statement.

If elected, Quinn said that she would help provide all students with comprehensive health education. She said she would also require schools to include health education in report cards to better inform parents.

While a health education program exists in city schools, the Department of Education doesn’t report which students take part in the program. Quinn said she would ensure every school has a health education-certified teacher.

Quinn said she was “proud” to receive the endorsement.

“Planned Parenthood and their political committee has a long, amazing history of breaking barriers on behalf of women and has not once through the decades let up on its relentless fight to protect the health of women and girls,” Quinn said in a statement.

The endorsement is the latest in a string of support from women’s groups and activists.

The city chapter of the National Organization for Women endorsed Quinn in June. Feminist activists Gloria Steinem and Sandra Fluke have campaigned for Quinn as well.

  1. and then presto…….QUINN says 11 year old CHILDREN should be given Morn.after.pills at schools-ONLY HELPS molester. SHOCKING

If a preg. 11 year old shows up at school the only thing that should be happening is the POLICE immediately dispatched to the CHILDS HOME. Obviously a Crime happened. If a child is given a pill the perpetrator will only continue the crime over and over. Basically a child molester would love the idea of 11 year old girls having Morning after Pills despensed to them at School.
