The cab driver who veered off Sixth Avenue, hitting a young British tourist and severing her leg, told the New York Post that the bicyclist who banged on his taxi is to blame.

M.D. Himon, 24, also told the Post that he needs a more “suitable job.”

“There’s too much stress when you’re driving in the city,” Himon said.

Himon, who received a summons for not being authorized to drive the cab that slammed into 23-year-old Sian Green on Tueday, said he accelerated onto the crowded sidewalk where Green was sitting because of road rage.

Himon said that when a bike messenger tapped on his cab, he tried to give notice for the cyclist to pass.

“He started pounding on my car with his hands and was yelling things at me. I suddenly felt like I had to get out of there. It was becoming a bad situation. So I accelerated to get in front of him,” Himon said.

After the crash, Himon said “everything becomes cloudy” and that he “just lost control of the car.”

Calling the accident a “disaster” for him because of what happened to Green, Himon blamed the cyclist.

“I personally feel that if that man on the bike didn’t bang on my car, maybe this would not have happened,” Himon told the Post. “I didn’t yell at him. I had my windows up and my A/C on. I could barely hear what he was saying. … I thought to myself, ‘This guy isn’t any good. I need to speed up to get away from him.’ I accelerated, and the rest is hard to remember.”

The day after the crash, the Taxi and Limousine Commission took the first steps in suspending Himon’s license, which has multiple violations.

Criminal charges against Himon are still possible, police said.
