Man arrested in shooting at PATH station in Jersey City

A man was arrested for shooting two fellow passengers at a PATH train station in Jersey City early Sunday morning.

Tari Turpin, 34, of East Orange, N.J., was arrested for shooting two passengers after a dispute aboard a PATH train spilled onto the Pavonia train station around 5:10 a.m.

A 24-year-old woman was shot in the ankle and a 26-year-old man was shot in the hand during the incident, according to the Port Authority of NY & NJ.

Turpin also sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh. All three were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

A Port Authority spokesman said Turpin was arrested after a brief foot chase from the train station.

Port Authority Police found a 9mm semi-automatic glock pistol and multiple hollow bullets on Turpin.

It’s unclear if Turpin shot himself. Only one gun was recovered at the scene.

Turpin boarded the PATH train at the 33rd Street station in Manhattan before getting in a fight with other passengers.

He was slapped with two counts of assault and seven other charges, including risking widespread injury or damage.

After the incident, there was a brief disruption of PATH service.
