Muslim woman attacked in Times Square on same day as Sikh attack uptown
A few hours before Sikh Columbia professor Prabhjot Singh was attacked uptown, a Muslim woman from New Jersey was attacked in Times Square while participating in a pro-democracy rally.
The attack was captured in this video by the New York chapter of the Council for Islamic-American Relations.
Her attacker, a large man walking past the rally, hit a woman wearing a hijab, a traditional Islamic headscarf, in the face with a poster. He can be heard on the video calling her a “f—g terrorist.”
In the video, two police officers race over and drag the man away from the woman. They cuff him against a nearby wall.
“New York’s religious and political leaders must speak out forcefully against the type of bigotry that leads to hate attacks on people of all faiths and backgrounds,” said CAIR-NY operations coordinator Sadyia Khalique.
