Ex-Eagle Hugh Douglas charged with assault
Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas was arrested in Connecticut on Tuesday, accused of violently attacking a woman at a Hartford hotel.
Douglas has been charged with second-degree strangulation and third-degree assault, WFSB-TV Eyewitness News reports. He is accused of grabbing the victim by her neck and slamming her against a wall several times in what the former All-Pro defensive end claimed was rough sex.
Douglas was arraigned in Hartford Superior Court and is scheduled to next appear in court on Oct. 21.
Douglas played for the Eagles from 1998 through 2002 and again in 2004 after one season in Jacksonville. He was the New York Jets’ first-round pick in 1995.
ESPN fired Douglas in mid-August as an analyst after he reportedly used a racial slur against a co-worker.
